I started a new hobby recently which is to find false data on the net and prove it false. In the area of Online solutions for increasing your MPG I am finding an oil strike of lame data.
I have, in previous articles, dispelled the validity of bogus solutions such as unjunking your trunk, driving with your a/c on, driving with your a/c off, ensuring your tires at the right pressure... in some cases the well meaning but bogus advice was proven utterly mythological . In other cases, the solution was sound but the value of it was so neglible as to not be worth the trouble. Like the "unjunk your trunk" was debunked when I did the math and realized the average car owner would only save approximately $50 per year!
Ok, well here goes another bogus solution
It has been suggested that increasing your MPG can be achieved if you were to pump up your gasoline tank when the tank is approximately half empty or half full and the reason for this was that you would lose less gasoline to evaporation somehow. The emptier the gasoline tank is the more likely the gasoline is to evaporate was the rationale.
I just discovered a contrary view. Another expert I have discussed this with tells me you are wisest to only refuel when your meter reads on empty, the reason for this is the gasoline weighs a lot. So you have a factor of evaporation versus the actual weight of having gasoline in your tank. And my adjudication based on this is to fill up whenever I want to and I make that same proposal to you! The savings either way would probably be minimal and not enough to put attention on. So don't.
BETTER SUGGESTION
Just stop pumping putrid gasoline into your car totally.
If you perform a full switch to a hydrogen system (hydrogen (H2) generated from water (H2O) you will emancipate yourself and will never have to pay for another gallon of gasoline again.
Only Bush thinks that a hydrogen car engine is something of the future not something that is happening today. Or more likely he is aware that a hydrogen car engine is available today but doesn't want us to be aware of it. That is more likely.
The know how exists, It is totally affordable, It is easy to learn and you can do the conversion yourself.
If you are not feeling so brave, you can do an easier conversion to a hybrid gasoline/hydrogen engine and improve your MPG by as much as 32% or more and have a cleaner running system while you save money.
That advice to gasoline prices cannot be debunked. Thousands of individuals every month are performing the conversion and joining the revolution!
