As improbable as one might presume, Fred Flintstone was dead on as he "drove" his foot powered automobile!!! Yep, that is where my research led me! The cave man's only mistake is that as an a cartoon character he was limited in his ability to "think in abstracts" and conceive of the bigger picture!

An American new manufacturing company (to remain unnamed here as I am not getting paid to promote them) released the news to a major science publication on Thursday that it expects to release the first generation automobile that is runs On AIR for the American market by late 2009 or early 2010. As the U.S. outlet for a foreign-based corporation, which invented the Air Car as a compression-based alternative to the internal combustion engine, the American company has procured rights to build the first of numerous manufacturing plants, which are likely to begin manufacturing in Detroit and other Northeastern industrial centers and grow for regional manufacturing around the country, at a pace of up to ten thousand Air Cars per year.

Company officials have planned to make the first air-powered auto to hit U.S. roads a $17,900, 75-horse power six-seater. that, reportedly is expected to go roughly 1000 miles at up to NINETY SIX mph on each tiny fill-up.

We will see if it meets those expectations but it is still pretty outside of the box kinda stuff conceptually.

The corporate spokesperson also said that it would not be only air but would require some tiny quantity of some type of fuel. But that the small quantity of fuel, with the air, could run the auto for 800-1000 miles or more if their plans translate well into the real world.

What can you do if you set out to get your automobile consuming the fuel as cleanly as possible, leaving less soot and deposits in the combustion chamber and on the valves, cleaning the injection system, or in older automobiles the carburetor, while not doing damage to emissions systems, not voiding your warranty, and, in the end, getting you increased MPG and greater longevity?

In recent experiments it has been proven that aromatic petroleum distillates, alcohol (methyl alcohol), ether, acetone, and toluene all accomplish all of these functions. But there is a limit. If put in too much of any of these you can actually worsen all those things rather than bettering them. The ideal mixture researched which was easiest to use in order to attain and handle increased MPG was 1-2 ounces of acetone per full tank

Can you name the most important safety feature in your car? Is the air bags? No. Perhaps it's the braking system? No again.
The most important safety feature in your car is the under-appreciated, often overlooked, sometimes intentionally avoided safety belt. As a child, you probably hated fastening your own seatbelt. As an adult, you may find yourself having to coax your own children to wear theirs. Don't give up! Safe passengers grow up to be safer drivers, and seat belts are a crucial element of automobile safety.

It's easy to remind you to make your child wear a seat belt, but in addition to merely buckling it, there are other things you should know about keeping your children safe when they are passengers in your car. Here, then, are some tips, courtesy of the National Highway Safety Administration (NHSA):

Kids in the Back Seat - Children under the age of twelve should always sit in the back seat, so they are far away from the air bags. While an air bag can save an adult's life, the force of their deployment, and the height at which they deploy, can seriously harm a small child.

Infant Seats.. Babies under a year old, and under twenty-two pounds should be in a rear-facing infant seat secured into the back seat of the car, and if you only have a two-seat car, it's important to de-activate the passenger-side airbag if a child seat will be there. Also, never have the restraints higher than shoulder level, or at an angle greater than 45 degrees.

Face Forward. When your infant becomes a toddler, and reaches a minimum of twenty pounds, you can put them in a forward-facing car seat (though it should still be secured in the back seat of the car.) The same rules for strap angles apply.

40 Pounds. The threshold for using a booster seat is at forty pounds, and they can be used until your child is about eight years old, or a maximum of 4'9" tall (by the time they hit that age, they'll be objecting to the booster pretty strenuously). At this point you can use the lap and shoulder belt, but make sure the straps don't go across the neck, face or arm - serious injury can occur if they do. (If your car has a lower setting for the seatbelt, use it.)

The Big Chair. The normal adult restraint system is allowable once your child reaches that 4'9" height, and is over eight years old. Again, you need to make sure the straps are never across the stomach or neck. Also, never allow your child (or any passenger) to put the shoulder strap behind their back. The lap restraint alone is not enough.

Most modern cars now come fitted with a tethering system for car seats, and the option to lower the position of shoulder straps. You can also buy belt guards for use with smaller adults and older children that help keep the seatbelt in the correct position. If you're using any of these devices, make sure you read all the product information first.

The most important safety feature (other than the seatbelt) however, is you. Institute the rule that the car will not move until everyone is belted in, and enforce it. You'll be safer for it, and so will your children. It was a negative report prompted by a donor whose car was grossly undersold by an Auction that acts as the Car Donation Agent for the Arthritis Foundation and other charities. The story emphasized how the auction has no incentive to demand maximum sales proceeds from donation cars since they make a flat $50 on every car donation they handle, regardless of what the cars sell for. The charity ended up with $200 from a car that was worth substantially more--it eventually sold for $1650. The winner, in this case, was the car dealer who purchased this car at auction for far below its wholesale value and sold it for a profit of more than $1,000.

Once again, the News put a negative spin on Vehicle Donation Programs by focusing on this incident. The message was that charities are not the winners when it comes to car donations.

I just discovered a contrary view. Another expert I have discussed this with tells me you are wisest to only refuel when your meter reads on empty, the reason for this is the gasoline weighs a lot. So you have a factor of evaporation versus the actual weight of having gasoline in your tank. And my adjudication based on this is to fill up whenever I want to and I make that same proposal to you! The savings either way would probably be minimal and not enough to put attention on. So don't.

BETTER SUGGESTION

Just stop pumping putrid gasoline into your car totally.
